JAKARTA - Adobe and Microsoft's latest move is to bring Adobe Acrobat PDF to more than 1.4 billion Windows and Edge users, after bringing Artificial Intelligence (AI) into the browser.

With Adobe Acrobat PDF, users will have a unique PDF experience that includes richer color rendering and graphical accuracy, increased performance, strong security for PDF handling, and greater accessibility.

Including better text selection and narration read aloud. Adobe Acrobat PDF can continue to be accessed free of charge by users.

"Getting Adobe and Microsoft closer is good for productivity and good for customers," said corporate vice president, Work & Modern Business Applications at Microsoft, Jared Spataro in the company's official blog quoted Thursday, February 9.

"Adobe's PDF technology in Microsoft Edge means users will have fast and secure access to critical digital document capabilities."

However, if users want more advanced digital document features, such as the ability to edit text and images, convert PDFs to other file formats, and merge files, they can subscribe to Acrobat which allows access to these features anywhere, including directly within Microsoft Edge.

Microsoft Edge users with an existing Adobe Acrobat subscription can use Acrobat extensions within Edge at no additional cost.

“PDF is critical for modern businesses, accelerating productivity in a world where automation and collaboration are more important than ever,” said Adobe SVP and GM Ashley Still.

“By bringing the global standard in the PDF experience to Microsoft Edge and to more than one billion Windows users worldwide, Adobe and Microsoft are using our heritage and shared expertise in productivity to take an important step forward in making modern, secure, and connected work and life," he added.

In the era of digital transformation, the web browser is where people collaborate, share information, and get work done in the cloud. Users around the world interact with trillions of PDF files across the web, mobile, and desktop.

With Adobe Acrobat capabilities powering the PDF experience on Edge, Windows 10, and Windows 11 users can use Adobe's PDF capabilities within the Microsoft Edge web browser, without the need to download or switch to a separate application.

To meet the needs of organizations with managed devices, the transition to the built-in Microsoft Edge PDF reader with Adobe Acrobat PDF capabilities will occur gradually, with an initial opt-in option for managed devices.

This announcement is part of an ongoing initiative by Adobe and Microsoft to transform digital work and life by bringing industry-leading document, e-signature, and PDF automation tools directly to Microsoft users.

This PDF experience in Microsoft Edge joins the full suite of Adobe PDF and e-signature integrations across Microsoft solutions, including Microsoft 365, Microsoft Teams, SharePoint, and more.
