JAKARTA - Messaging platform Discord announced its acquisition of Gas, a poll-based social application most popular among teenagers.

"Since the founding of Discord, our mission has been to enable people to build community through fun experiences and genuine connections. Today, we are excited to announce that Discord is acquiring Gas," wrote Discord Founder and CEO Jason Citron on his blog.

Gas was founded by Nikita Bier in 2022. At Gas, users can apply to their school, add friends, and answer polls about their classmates, with positive questions.

"Gas is all about uplifting and empowering one another through positive affirmations. Her incredible success demonstrates the opportunities there are in creating a fun but meaningful place for young people," he added.

In addition, the company also recognizes that the founders of Gas have a proven track record of creating engaging apps and experiences. "And we love working with their team to take things to the next level."

After this acquisition, Gas will continue as a standalone application. Meanwhile, the Gas team will join Discord to assist the company's efforts to continue growing among new and core audiences.

"We have always worked to create an inclusive world where no one feels like an outsider and we are delighted to welcome Gas to the Discord community as the next step to fulfill that vision," concluded Citron.

According to data from Sensor Tower, Gas achieved 7.4 million installations and nearly $7 million in consumer spending since its launch in the summer of 2022. On Gas, users can subscribe to a paid feature called "Gode Mode", which gives users a hint as to who their secret compliment is.
