JAKARTA - A few months ago, Instagram released a new feature called the Supervision feature.

This feature allows parents to connect their Instagram accounts with their children.

Once the two accounts are connected, parents will have access to monitor their child's activity on the app.

How the Monitoring Feature Works

The supervisors referred to here do not have to be parents, it could be the biggest older sibling or teenagers aged 13 to 17 years. However, this feature definitely has certain limits.

For example, parents and guardians cannot supervise youth without their consent.

Instead, teens will be invited by their parents or guardians to be supervised, but they can decline if they don't want to.

Instagram's monitoring feature won't report all teen activity to their parents, but alerts them in the following ways:

When a teen submits a report to Instagram, such as a harassment report.

When someone follows their profile or when they follow a new profile.

How to Enable Supervision on Instagram

To activate this feature is quite easy, you can take the following steps that VOI will provide:

1. Open the Instagram application on your phone.

2. Tap on your Profile icon in the bottom-right corner of the screen.

3. Now tap on the three dot Menu icon at the top right corner of the screen.

4. Tap Settings, then tap Supervision.

5. Select Add account, followed by the Create invite button.

6. Send the link to your child's account, and done.

If your teen lets you monitor their activity on Instagram, you'll be able to access their account.

However, they can also choose to ignore it and nothing will change.
