JAKARTA - Instagram announced on Monday, October 1 that it has fixed a software bug that prevented thousands of users from accessing the photo-sharing platform for about eight hours. Even the error also led to complaints about account suspension.

"We've addressed this bug now that caused people around the world to have problems accessing their accounts and caused temporary changes to some follower counts," Instagram, the social media company owned by Meta Platforms Inc., said in a tweet Monday, October 31.

An Instagram spokesperson did not comment on the account suspension. Several Instagram users have also tweeted that they are being asked to re-enter their email ID and phone number to access their suspended accounts.

From more than 7.500 reports as of 10:09 a.m. ET on the outage tracking website Downdetector, the number of user reports decreased to nearly 500 around 6 pm ET.

Downdetector compiles status reports from a number of sources including user-submitted errors on its platform. The outage might affect a much larger number of users. Meta shares closed down 6.1% amid a broader sell-off in the stock market.
