JAKARTA - Later this month, Samsung smartphone users will see the updated One UI 5 interface on their devices. This time the company is more focused on the personalization features of its users.

The first update involves the lock screen, where users can select up to 15 photos and videos for their lock screen. The photo will appear every time the user turns on the screen.

Users can also let the feature work alone with a curated selection of images, users will see a different image each time they open the phone screen.

Users can choose up to five categories of images such as animals, plants and more. To prevent them from getting bored, Samsung will update the image collection every two weeks.

Apart from that, users can also change the wallpaper, clock style, and notification pop-ups on the lock screen. A UI update is also coming for Galaxy Watch users.

Furthermore, Samsung says they have redesigned notifications to make them look more intuitive and easy to parse at a glance. Likewise with the improved widgets on the home screen.

One UI 5 will also have answer and reject buttons when the user sees a call pop-up. Regarding calls, quoted from Engadget, Friday, October 14, there is a new feature called Bixby Text Call.

The user will be able to answer the call by typing a message and Bixby can read this out to the caller. The voice assistant can convert what the caller says into text.

This capability can be useful if the user is in a noisy environment and can't hear what other people are saying. Bixby Text Call is available in Korean as part of One UI 4.1.1. The English version will arrive in early 2023.

Finally, users can have modes with specific settings for specific situations, such as when they are sleeping, relaxing, or exercising. In casual mode, users can mute notifications so they can focus on watching videos or playing games.

When it's time to sleep, the phone will turn off all sounds and reduce the screen brightness in the preset mode. For that, the device will ask a series of simple questions to help the user set the mode as desired.
