JAKARTA - Snapchat is launching a new augmented reality (AR) experience, where users can try out and buy Halloween costumes directly from within the app.

If the user wants to give it a try, type Disguise Costumes in the app's search bar to search for Halloween costumes. Then, users can start taking some full-body photos, and Snapchat's computer vision technology will apply the costume images to their bodies.

In addition, users can save images or send them to their friends to ask for opinions. If users like the costumes, they can buy them directly within the app.

Costumes include popular movie and TV show characters, such as Harry Potter, Squid Game, Stranger Things, Hocus Pocus, Transformers, Power Rangers, Minecraft, Ghostbusters, and many more.

Citing TechCrunch In partnership with costume company Disguise, the company says it has also conducted research with consulting firm Ipsos and found shopping has become the number one reason why people use AR.

Indeed, more and more companies are starting to offer AR tools with which to try out the items they sell.

Snap, Snapchat's parent, helped expand its app into AR-powered e-commerce over the past year, after providing a computer vision-based Scan feature with more prominent placement within the app and enhancing it with shopping capabilities.
