Elon Musk Affirms His Focus On Completing Self-Driving Technology And Starship Development

JAKARTA Tesla CEO Elon Musk announced on Monday, August 29 that he wants to prepare self-driving technology from the electric car factory by the end of this year. Musk also hopes that technology can be widely released in the United States and possibly in Europe, depending on existing regulatory approvals.

Speaking at an energy conference in Norway, Musk said his current attention was focused on SpaceX spacecraft, Starship, and Tesla electric cars that can drive themselves.

"Two technologies that I focus on trying to ideally resolve before the end of the year, bring our Starship into orbit and then have a Tesla car to be able to self-driving," he said at the meeting.

"Having self-driving in broad releases at least in the US, and potentially in Europe, depends on regulatory approval," Musk told the audience.

Earlier, Musk said the world should continue to extract oil and gas to sustain civilization, while also developing sustainable energy sources.

"It's realistic I think we need to use oil and gas in the short term, because otherwise, civilization will collapse," Musk told reporters on the sidelines of the conference.

Asked if Norway should continue drilling for oil and gas, Musk said: "I think some additional exploration is needed at this time."

"One of the biggest challenges the world has ever faced is the transition to sustainable energy and a sustainable economy," he said. "It will take decades to complete."

He said offshore wind power plants in the North Sea, combined with stationary battery packs, could be a major energy source. "It can provide a strong and sustainable energy source in winter," he said.
