JAKARTA - India's Tata Group on Thursday launched its much-anticipated e-commerce "super app". The app claims to offer everything from clothes to plane tickets. This is their new venture to seize the fast-growing e-commerce market, dominated by Amazon.com and Walmart Flipkart.
Tata Neu, which has worked for about two years, is the single platform for the group's brands, including Westside fashion, Air Asia tickets, Croma electronics, Taj hotel group, online wholesaler BigBasket and 1mg online pharmacy.
"Our goal is to make the lives of Indian consumers simpler and easier," said Tata Chairman, N Chandrasekaran, on LinkedIn. He added that the joint venture airline Vistara and recently acquired Air India, as well as the watch brand Titan will soon be available on this app.
The 154-year-old group, which generated USD 103 billion in revenue in 2020-21, is a leading player in steelmaking, IT outsourcing, and other utilities. Yet they are arguably best known internationally as the owners of the British luxury car brand, Jaguar Land Rover. Tata also makes cars in India under its own brand.

As reported by Reuters, Tata also has an extensive offline retail portfolio, including a joint venture with Starbucks Corp. Fashion and watch stores from Tata are ubiquitous, on Indian highways and operate stores for fashion brand Inditex Zara.
Despite briefly launching the online marketplace Tata CliQ in 2016, the group has become a small fish in an e-commerce market that is widely projected to be worth USD 200 billion (IDR 2.8 quadrillion) by 2026. According to a source via Tata Neu, the group is determined to change it.
Tata Neu will offer a membership program and a cross-brand loyalty scheme where customers can earn and redeem rewards when they make in-app purchases.
