UK Begins To Create Autonomous Vehicle Regulations, In The Event Of A Wrong Car Manufacturer Accident

JAKARTA - Tesla successfully won the first session in the United States (US) over allegations of driver assistance features for its Autopilot source of death at the end of last October. But in contrast to the US, King Charles of the UK will introduce new laws and legal frameworks related to the autonomous vehicle industry and its development.

Obviously, if this regulation is passed, then Britain will be the first country in the world to have clear rules regarding autonomous vehicles, especially when an accident occurs, considering that Britain has decided that autonomous car manufacturers will be responsible if autonomous cars have accidents, not owners or drivers.

"My ministers will introduce a new legal framework to support secure commercial development in new industries, such as driverless vehicles," Charles said in a speech Tuesday, November 6 in front of lawmakers and reported by Reuters.

The bill will establish a protocol for investigating accidents, but one of its first tasks is to define what a driverless car means.

Well, it should also be noted that the current Level 2 autonomous technology system will not be categorized as an autonomous system because it still requires drivers to monitor the road and are ready to take over, but from Level 3 to above, drivers can let their cars go, brake, and drive on their own.

This Level 3 system, as now owned by Mercedes-Benz under the name Drive Pilot, has received approval from a number of countries ranging from Germany and several US states. Unfortunately, this system is not yet legal in the UK.

Mercedes-Benz itself will deliver to customers of the 2024 EQS and S-Class Models equipped with the Drive Pilot in early 2024 through the official Mercedes-Benz dealers participating in California and Nevada.

Back to England, the new bill, quoted from Carscoop, November 8, was welcomed by an insurance company that respects clarity on who is responsible for the problem for autonomous vehicles.
