JAKARTA - Jeep, a leading auto company, announced the recall of 97,000 Jeep Wagoneer and Grand Wagoneer units in the United States. The recall was carried out due to problems with seat belts that could pose a serious risk of injury to users.

Based on a report from USAToday, Thursday, November 2, the United States Highway Safety Agency (NHTSA) confirmed that this problem occurred in models produced between 2022 and 2024. The damage occurred in the third row of seat belts which resulted in the inability to use the belt properly. Local regulators expressed concern about the potential risk of passenger safety if this issue was not addressed immediately.

Although the exact cause of damage to seat belts remains unclear, Jeep first learned of this issue on October 20, 2022 after receiving reports related to the damage. After an inspection, the company confirmed that the problem was not caused by an error in the construction of the components, but occurred during the assembly process.

While Jeep believes that only about 1 percent of the total models are affected, they will still thoroughly examine all models produced between February 24, 2021, to ensure consumer safety.

Jeep plans to contact customers on this issue from December 15 and will provide free inspection and replacement services at authorized dealers. Consumer safety remains Jeep's top priority in dealing with the matter.
