Allegedly Performing Safety And Health Violations At Its Factory, General Motors Will Be Fined

JAKARTA - The United States Authority proposed fines to General Motors and LG Energy Solution in Ohio, amounting to USD 270 thousand, or approximately IDR 4.25 billion on the basis of safety and health violations at its factories.

The factory allegedly committed various violations of the explosion incident in March 2023, this was stated directly by the US Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA), reported by Reuters, Friday, October 13.

In addition, OSHA inspectors also found that the company failed to provide employee work safety procedures, plus did not comply with existing standards for personal protective equipment.

On the other hand, the factory defended where it stated that all procedures were carried out according to existing standards.

On the same occasion, local authorities have released a warning letter against factory activities, in which it is stated that the factory is also causing dust that endangers the health of workers and the surrounding community.

"The company's future focus must include an emphasis on workplace safety to ensure the well-being of its employees," said OSHA Area Director Howard Eberts in Cleveland.

Authorities said the plant needed to add various engine protective equipment, train workers regarding energy control and emergency response procedures, to provide security.
