Together With GM, Samsung Will Build An EV Battery Factory With A Capacity Of More Than 30 GWh In The United States

JAKARTA - South Korean electronic maker Samsung SDI Co together with General Motors Co (GM) will build a battery assembly facility for EVs in the US.

The joint venture between the two companies was built on an area of 2.65 million square meters and was built in the New airway area, the central US state.

Quoted from Yonhap, Tuesday, June 13, Samsung plans to start commercial operations at the factory with a capacity of more than 30 GWh in 2026.

The announcement of the construction of the factory came after Samsung SDI announced its plan with GM last April to invest more than US$3 billion (around Rp44.8 trillion).

With this large nominal investment, it is planned for the construction of a factory which is estimated to create jobs of around 1,700 types of jobs in the region.

Previously, Samsung SDI decided to build an EV battery factory in Indiana in collaboration with Stellantis NV, a parent company from manufacturers such as Maserati, Peugeot, Jeep, Lancia, and others.

The factory resulting from a joint venture between Samsung and Stellantis has an annual capacity of 23 GWh, with plans to start its operation in 2025.
