JAKARTA - A total of 52 musicians from a total of 169 by musicians and songwriters in Medan City, North Sumatra, were nominated for the 2023 Medan Music Award (AMM).

"This is what the jury will assess on the road to AMM 2023 which will be held at Kafka Space, and next at the Manhattan Hotel Medan," said Head of the Medan City Tourism Office Yuda Pratiwi Setiawan in Medan, North Sumatra, Sunday, quoted by Antara.

He emphasized that his party would take as many as 14 of the best musicians who are entitled to the highest award for musicians in Medan City.

Previously, the Medan City Tourism Office collaborated with the Association of Songwriters and Musicians of the Republic of Indonesia (PAPPRI) Medan City to hold AMM 2023 followed by local musicians.

There are 15 music genres included to get the 2023 Medan Music Award, including pop, rock, jaz, blues, rap, country, reggae, ballad and rock.

"The 14 musicians consist of the best female and male singers, the best songwriters, the best songwriters and the best band group AMM 2023," said Yuda.

His party also mentioned that AMM 2023 was the first time it was held in Medan City, and this implementation is a pilot project in Indonesia.

"The Medan 2023 Music Award was made by the Mayor of Medan Bobby Nasution for the music ecosystem. The goal is to be more able to compete at the national and international levels," Yuda explained.

Chairman of the Medan City PAPPRI Sayed Faisal admitted that AMM 2023 will return Medan City to a music barometer in Indonesia, because the music world of Medan City had triumphed in the 1970s.

"What I think about is how creative Medan City musicians can be appreciated. Because musicians in Medan City just disappear because the ecosystem has not yet been built," he said.

Through AMM 2023, he said, music works in Medan City will be appreciated, so that musicians and songwriters in the capital city of North Sumatra Province will continue to work.

"When we get mayors who are creative-minded, we feel very helped. You see, there are no other districts/cities in Indonesia thinking about making an event like this," said Sayed.
