Hozier Ready To Prevent AI Threats To Music

JAKARTA - Ireland's musician Hozier said he would consider attacking threats posed by artificial intelligence (AI) against the music industry.

In a preview of the episode Newsnight on the evening of August 17, Hozier real name Andrew Hozier-Byrne explained to Victoria Derbyshire presenter about the AI threat.

"Whether [AI is] art or not, in my opinion, is almost a philosophical debate," he opened.

It can't create something based on human experience. So I don't know if it satisfies the definition of art.

He continued: 'The actors, nowadays... there is a big strike right now. Yes, most of that action is because [AI] can be used to make products without human force.'

Asked if he could imagine strike at the threat AI poses to the music industry, Hozier replied: "Can I imagine? Yes. Joining in that solidarity if there is such action? Definitely."

Hozier said he was willing to join a similar action to the strike of US actors and writers, who fought for contracts and better protection against the use of AI in industry.

Writers Guild of America (WGA) and Screen Actors Guild (SAG-AFTRA) went on a joint strike for the first time since 1960.

The Hollywood actor union joined the WGA in taking a strike on July 13, after negotiations failed with the Film and Television Manufacturers Alliance (AMPTP), representing major studios such as Netflix, Disney, Apple, Amazon, Warner Bros. and others.

The two unions seek better salaries, residual streaming, and protection against the use of AI technology amid the rise of streaming services.
