Andien's Fear Of Appearing In Java Jazz For 15 Years: He's So Nervous, I'm Crying

JAKARTA - Singer Andien Aisyah never forgot the first time she played at the Java Jazz Festival in 2005 which was held at the Jakarta Convention Center.

At that time, Andien admitted that he was very nervous and did not dare to appear in front of the audience so that he could only cry backstage. It is scheduled to appear before the Maliq & D'Essentials band, Andien, who at that time was already wearing a costume complete with make-up on his face, was silent backstage because he was afraid.

Later, Andien actually cried.

"Because, right, Java Jazz is a big festival that many people are waiting for. I was so nervous, I cried when I prayed and didn't want to go up to the stage. I was really scared," Andien said as quoted by Antara.

Andien continued the story that at that time, he was finally brave and able to get on stage, after getting encouragement from those closest to him.

"People calm down, they give support, 'let's do it, can it!'. Finally it went smoothly and over time, I also became more confident. I consider Java Jazz to be home because I am very welcome here," continued Andien.

The singer who was born on August 25, 1985 admitted that she was very happy when playing on every stage of the Java Jazz Festival because she was able to meet many performers. Later he even got the opportunity to collaborate with idol musicians whose works he often listened to all the time.

"If it wasn't at Java Jazz, there was no way I would have had that opportunity. For example, during a duet with Jeff Lorber or Bob James, or a local musician who is now a legend like Elfa Secioria or Bubi Chen. Only Java Jazz can facilitate it and it will always mean something to me."

Collaborating with many musicians, he continued, is one of the exciting moments. Especially when on stage, Andien feels there is always an improvisation so that it becomes an unforgettable memorable experience.

"The interesting thing about collaboration is because it's a jazz stage, even though it's been practiced several times, however, there's still a surprising improvisation on stage. I often remind myself, 'Okay Andien, this is a jazz stage, so there's very likely to be improvisation, you know.' Always fun!' he explained.

In addition to releasing the latest solo single in the near future, Andien revealed that he and group 5 Women have also prepared a special single for Indonesian music lovers.

5 women are groups consisting of Andien Aisyah, Rieka Roeslan, Nina Tamam, Iga Mawarni, and Yuni Shara. Previously in 2015, the group had released a single titled Tersiksa Lagi.

Now, they will return to greet listeners by performing songs by composer Guruh Soekarnoputra which are scheduled to be released at the end of June.

"Why only now? Because we are singers who gather, not vocal groups. So, each has a career that must be carried out. So, the time to gather is difficult. Plus all mothers, right," said Andien laughing.
