Dave Ellefson Calls Metallica's New Album Like a New iPhone

JAKARTA - In an interview with Meltdown from Detroit radio station WRIF, former Megadeth bassist David Ellefson was asked about two new Metallica songs, Lux Æterna and Screaming Suicide.

Ellefson responded with great enthusiasm. What's that? This was said by the bassist who now carries the band Kings Of Thrash.

"I've (heard). I love that song. I think it's really cool. You know, just like all those people, they're like Apple — when they launch a product, it usually sounds really cool. Metallica's new album is like a new iPhone launch — pretty awesome", said Ellefson.

Ellefson went on to say that Lux Æterna and Metallica's 72 Seasons album announcement and accompanying stadium tour came "out of nowhere" last November while he was in Poland working on his Dieth project.

"And you're, like, 'Oh my gosh'. I mean, this literally just fell out of the sky; I don't think any of us saw it coming, which I thought was really cool", he continued.

Elaborating on his thoughts on Lux Æterna and Screaming Suicide, Ellefson said: "[Lux Æterna's] first single especially I think is really cool...

"Look, at this point, there are only 12 notes in the chromatic scale", he explained. "We've played them all in almost every possible combination of how to play them. So, like, how do you know, on the album—whatever that is to them."

"You're not the same person when you recorded One, are you? You're not Metallica 1987; you're like this now", added Ellefson.

"So I think as we age into our careers and we age into our art, if you will, you're always figuring out how you can scratch that itch and satisfy all those bits of your creative thing there."
