Kaleidoscope 2024: Rows Of New Car Brands That Enliven The Indonesian Automotive Market

JAKARTA - Indonesia this year has become a destination for various car brands, especially brands from China, which continue to arrive and bring about the latest myriad of advantages.

Yes, since the beginning of 2024 new brands from China have presented a variety of environmentally friendly cars or New Energy Vehicles (NEV). Not only that, but there are Vietnamese brands that also take part in the Indonesian automotive market.

So what new brands are present in the country?

BYD

BYD is one of the brands that is certainly familiar in various parts of the world. This brand from China immediately hit the Indonesian automotive market in early 2024 with various mainstay models.

Since the beginning of the year until now, BYD has a total of four models. Starting from Dolphin, Atto 3, Seal to M6, which is now an MPV of electricity which is quite attractive in the Indonesian automotive market. BYD is also building a factory in the country.

VinFast

Not only brands from China, VinFast, who is from Vietnam, also enlivened the Indonesian automotive market in 2024. Present in February 2024 at the IIMS event, the brand from the Land of the Blue Dragon brought various innovations in the BEV segment. In fact, offering a battery exchange scheme that makes the price of electric cars more affordable.

VinFast introduced various models ranging from VF e34, VF5, VF6, and VF7. This brand also plans to build a factory in Subang, West Java, which is scheduled to start operating in the fourth quarter of 2025.

BAIC

The next Chinese brand to enliven the Indonesian automotive market, namely the Beijing Automotive Group (BAIC) officially arrived in May 2024. Two mainstay models were immediately introduced, starting from the BJ-40 PLUS and BAIC X-55 II. This brand also introduced the BJ80 SUV model, unfortunately until now there has been no clarity about the launch of the model, and it was brought to the homeland which is still at the left.

AION

The next car brand that enlivens the Indonesian automotive market is AION. This Chinese brand immediately brought three electric cars at once. Starting from the Y Plus model, HT Hyptec and ES sedans and most recently there was AION V. The AION V design was inspired by the T-Rex dinosaur which made it look striking with a combination of tough and modern impressions.

AION also plans to revive the national automotive market with various mainstay models in 2025. Of course, it is worth waiting for a new breakthrough from AION.

Jetour

Jetour is one of the new brands that is present in Indonesia. For the first time, it introduced two models, namely X70 Plus and Dashing, which filled the SUV segment. The VOI team tested this one model at its official launch, which offered a masculine and quite reliable impression.

Aletra

Another new brand, Aletra, made her debut at the 2024 Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week (GJAW) event last November. This brand is under the auspices of PT Aletra Mobil Nusantara which is a rebadged model from China, Livan Auto, which is a company under the Geely Auto Group.

Aletra carries an L8 electric car model that comes in 2 battery variants, namely for short distances (Short Range) at 415 km and a variant for long distances (Long Range) at 540 km.

Zeekr

Furthermore, there is Zeekr, this premium brand from China also takes part in the Indonesian automotive market. Its presence took the momentum of Gaikindo Jakarta Auto Week which immediately introduced two mainstay models, namely Zeekr X and Zeekr 009.

Unfortunately, there is no official price for the two models for the Indonesian market. However, there is an estimated price that was disclosed, for Zeekr X it is priced at a range of more than Rp. 1 billion, and Zeekr 009 is above Rp. 2 billion.
