Lotus Introduces New Electric Grand Tourer With Super Speed

JAKARTA - Lotus, one of the legendary automotive manufacturers from England, introduced a four-door electric car that is the successor to one of the best super sedans ever, Lotus Carlton, in New York City, on Thursday, September 7.

This car is named Emeya, and is an electric GT car fully developed by the existing brand from 1948.

From the company's release, September 7, it was named Emeya chosen by Lotus to reflect their "ambitance and commitment" to this new vehicle which is expected to help Lotus achieve its goal of becoming a global performance brand by 2028.

Lotus has adopted DNA for a new design, and Emeya smoothly follows Eletre's design style, another electric car from Lotus. The design is full of tantalizing curves, flat door handles, and contrasts between the black roof and the sharp C pillar.

The back also caught the eye, with the LED back light stretched long, and there was a slight touch of design from Bugatti Chiron on the back, quoted from Carbuzz, September 7.

On the front, Emeya has a front spoiler mounted under a bumper that increases stability at high speed, while the grip helps improve car aerodynamic efficiency when it opens, and can cool brakes and batteries.

On the back, there are active diffusers and spoilers that assist in car handling and stability. This spoiler is well integrated so it doesn't damage the appearance of the car.

Below it, Emeya is equipped with an electronically controlled air suspension that can feel road conditions and make adjustments more than 1,000 times per second. Regarding the distance, Lotus stated that Emeya is expected to have almost the same distance as Eletre, which is at least 490 km.

The top specification model for Emeya features a high-power double electric motor setup from Lotus which gives the highest speed of more than 250km/hour and can accelerate from 0-100km/hour in less than 2.8 seconds. making it one of the fastest electric GTs in the world.

Emeya is also equipped with Lotus fast charging capabilities that can increase the range to 150 km with about five minutes of charging using a DC 350kW fast charger, and increase the range to 80% in 18 minutes.

Lotus also said that high-performance models will have a racing class braking system, which is urgently needed in heavy electric vehicles. Interestingly, Emeya has a slightly smaller pack of batteries (102 kilowatt hours) compared to Eletre (112 kWh). The size of a battery like this is still large enough for a sedan, but comparable to the Model S Plaid of 100 kWh.

The most interesting interior part is the driver's seat. Lotus claims that Emeya is full of smart and sophisticated features that make driving experience safer and more enjoyable. 55-inch augmented reality projection screens provide real-time information such as navigation, safety system data, obstacle warnings, and blind-spot assistants.

Lotus did not provide information about the price, but as a natural competitor to Tesla Model S and Porsche Taycan, the price of Emeya is expected to be in the range of US$75,000 to US$135,000.

Emeya production will begin in 2024, so it is likely that this car will arrive at the market as a model in 2025.
