JAKARTA - The 2023 Jakarta World Cinema Week (JWCW) film festival has been completed.
The screening of the film from Australia entitled Shayda at CGV Grand Indonesia on Saturday, November 18 evening became the closing of this event.
Shandy Gasella as Festival Director said Shayda's selection as the closing film had a similar reason for choosing Inshallah A Boy as the opening film for the festival.
“ Daniel and I selected 91 films from hundreds of films at JWCW is one thing. But for quality which films are on opening and closing, that's a tough thing,” Shandy Gasella said at the closing of JWCW 2023.
After we discussed the issues raised from these 91 films, we saw that Inshallah A Boy and Shayda had quite provocative characteristics. The correlation between Inshallah A Boy and Shayda is a film that has an empowering woman message, the woman must be empowered, ” he continued.
JWCW was held for eight days. Shayda, a film directed by Noora Niasari, tells the story of the struggle of a 6-year-old mother and child from Iran seeking refuge in Australia.
"This film is based on a memoir of my mother who goes to Australia for protection, but her life there is also not easy," said Noora Niasari.
At the close of JWCW 2023, Inshallah A Boy was also announced to be the film most liked by the audience. The film got the most votes outperforming dozens of other films.
In total, 91 films are screened in JCWC 2023, both offline on CGV Grand Indonesia, and online on KlikFilm. Shandy Gasella hopes that JWCW can continue in the coming years.
“Thank you to all those who have participated so that this second edition of the JWCW can take place. Hopefully we can meet again in the third edition of the JCWC next year,” concluded Shandy Gasella.
