JAKARTA - The Korea Indonesia Film Festival (KIFF) 2023 will be present this year. Entering the 14th year of implementation, KIFF is determined to present quality Korean and Indonesian films.

Interestingly, this year's festival also coincides with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and South Korea.

"It has not been felt for the last 13 years that it has been held thanks to Korean film lovers. It is even more special because it celebrates the 50 years of diplomatic relations between Indonesia and Korea," said Kim Young Woon, director of the Korea Cultural Center Indonesia at CGV Grand Indonesia, Jakarta today, Thursday, October 12.

KIFF 2023 will be held from October 19 to October 22, 2023 in four locations, namely CGV in Jakarta (Grand Indonesia), Bandung (23 Paskal), Yogyakarta (Jwalk), and Surabaya (Marvell City).

The film Cobweb by director Kim Jee Won will be the opening film for KIFF 2023 which will also be filled by 15 various Korean and Indonesian films. Other films are Alienoid, Autobiography, Broker, The Childe, Confidential Assignment: International, The Ghost Station, Hello Ghost, Hero, When Stopped Here, The Moon, Phantom, The Roundup: No Way Out, Smugglers, Susuk: Kutukan Kebihatan, Switch.

We take Cobweb as the opening film of a phenomenal director in South Korea. In addition, for me, 4 Indonesian films this year have more meaning. Everyone has something new between this year's releases," said Rivki Morais as director of the 2023 KIFF festival.

The running of KIFF 2023 for more than a decade cannot be separated from the growing fans of the Korean film industry. Rivki revealed that this year there are three Korean films with the largest total audience in Indonesia.

"Our hope is to continue to improve. Incidentally this year Indonesia broke 3 record best-selling films. First, Decible is the best-selling Korean film in Indonesia, then The Childe with 230 thousand viewers, then overtaken with The Moon reaching 400 thousand," said Rivki.

"If you can see Korean films are racing. Maybe one of the influences of a varied OTT (over the top) and more and more people are aware that Korea is not aware of the story of poor women meeting the rich handsome oppa. The most watched here is from different genres," he said.

Like the previous year, KIFF 2023 appointed an actor as an ambassador festival. The baton was given to Bryan Domani where his latest film, When Stopping Here will air on KIFF 2023.

"It feels honorable. If there is an opportunity to bring state films to the stage or new audience, I'll always be ready!" said Bryan Domani.

All films at KIFF 2023 can be watched by paying IDR 15,000 through CGV App or offline according to the broadcast schedule.
