JAKARTA - Parents need to invite their children to be involved in social activities to foster their sense of concern for the surrounding environment from an early age. Growing a sense of concern for children from an early age is very important so that they can have good social skills in various social conditions.

"Give an appropriate example, invite children to always be involved in activities or social actions, encourage children to participate involunteer activities in the community, go to orphanages and contribute, such as donating goods or making joint activities for children there," said Child and Family Psychologist Samanta Elsenter who is part of the Indonesian Psychology Association (HIMPSI), quoted from ANTARA, Thursday, June 8.

"Ajak he is always involved in family gatherings such as choosing food and entertaining guests. Join religious activities such as sahur on the road or breaking the fast together, paying attention to other people around him, visiting sick people, and others," he continued.

Without the direction of character education, children will become indifferent and have very high egos. As a result, children will find it difficult to put themselves in social life.

For this reason, Samanta said, it is important for parents to set a good example. The reason is, children grow and develop according to the direction of their parents.

It's just that, he said, sometimes the example of parents is not enough. So, there needs to be a lively discussion between parents and children.

Parents can ask reflective questions so that their children can reflect on their self-evaluation and see how much care develops within them.

"From this lively discussion, children will have better views and understanding," said Samanta.

Then, the character of children will also be stronger and can distinguish between caring and others by becoming people pleasers or people who always feel bad if they don't please others.

"When parents focus on self-esteem children, God willing, children minimize the possibility of interpreting themselves as people pleasers and actually feel empowered because they have a character caring for others," concluded Samanta.
