JAKARTA - Insufficient facilities are not foreign things heard regarding education in Eastern Indonesia. This is also one of the obstacles to education in the sunrise region which makes many children in the eastern region choose to drop out of school and work to earn a living.
However, lack of facilities is not an obstacle for children there to gain knowledge like other children. "It is a fact that in the eastern region we still lack facilities related to education, which of course becomes one of the obstacles for teaching and learning systems there. Lack of facilities also makes children more pessimistic and less interested in learning. However, this is not the reason for them not to get useful knowledge," said Maria Regina, one of the drivers of education in NTT in a discussion session held at Building A Kemeterian Education and Culture, Jakarta, Saturday, September 24.
The woman who is called Mama Ina teaches English. In the transformation process, she uses a typical regional naming method combined with English science in a regional game called Ciki Doka.
Ciki Doka itself is a match similar to a negara, palak mena or throwing stones, where later the children will throw stones in the row of boxes that have been given a number. Each number is provided with an English vocabulary where later the children will guess the meaning of each vocabulary received.
"Disadvantage is not an excuse for us not to be able to provide useful knowledge. Uninhabitability facilities as a barrier to education can be disseminated. For that, we use all available resources for children to gain useful knowledge. One of them is by way of creating Ciki Doka," he continued.
To learn in a game like this, it is not uncommon for these women to have to pick up their children to their homes. "Not infrequently, I will follow the children there to their homes to be able to learn. There, I teach them the same method, namely combining traditional games with English science," he said.
The same inspirational thing was also conveyed by Kristuisno M. Kapiluka, a mover of education from Southwest Maluku, who is a scholar in mathematics.
On that occasion, Kristuisno M. Kapiluka also shared his infpiratist story where he explained that deficiencies were not an obstacle to becoming a mature human being.
"People who do not move forward are people who start from their weaknesses. This means that people who prioritize fatigue before starting something are people who will not progress," said Kristuisno M. Kapiluka.
Kristuisno also emphasized where education is a window of the world. So, it is important to accept it for all people in all parts of Indonesia, without any space limit.
"Education can be done anywhere and anytime. To gain knowledge, you don't have to wait for the teachers to come from the West Indonesia region. We don't have to wait for a book to come to learn. Learn from various existing sources," explained Kristuisno.
A small story above is just one of hundreds of patriotic and inspiring stories from the nation's children who want to devote themselves to serving and educating children in Eastern Indonesia within the framework of the Merdeka Learning movement. On Saturday and Sunday, September 24-25, 2022, they were collected together to burn the spirit, formulate policies from their respective cultural backgrounds in Eastern Indonesia with a more coordinated approach.
