First Time Reaching USD 1 Billion Revenue For ‘Top Gun: Maverick’, Tom Cruise: Thank You

JAKARTA - Top Gun: Maverick became the first film of 2022 with a revenue of 1 billion US dollars or approximately IDR 14.9 trillion. This film follows Spider-Man: No Way Home which managed to reach that number.

In addition, this film is also Tom Cruise's first film with a figure of USD 1 billion. This figure is calculated according to the number of sales globally without China and some other countries.

This revenue is also supported by much higher global views. Citing Deadline, Korea earned 14.2 million US dollars as of Monday.

This figure is certain to continue to grow considering that Top Gun: Maverick is still showing in theaters. Director Joseph Kosinski is proud that this sequel is still well received by audiences.

“This achievement is the result of five years of collaboration with cast and crew, including members of the US Navy. Enthusiastic fans around the world show that nothing can change the cinema experience,” said Joseph Kosinski.

“When I was 12, I sat in awe watching Top Gun, the film that shaped my cinematic experience,” he says.

Tom Cruise, who earned $1 billion in films in his 40-year career, also has a voice. He thanked the public for the appreciation of the sequel to this film.

“To all the films released, production houses, cinema parties: congratulations. For the audience: thank you for allowing us to entertain you. See you in the movies," wrote Tom Cruise via social media.

Top Gun: Maverick is the sequel to the first film after 36 years. This film tells of Pete Mitchell who is appointed as a jet pilot trainer before fighting in the air.
