JAKARTA - Actor Yusuf Mahardika Lingga Putra, who is well-known as the star of the soap opera Tendangan Si Madun, is now pursuing a behind-the-scenes role, namely writing film and series scenarios.

"First made films since high school, short films. Thank God, this year we are collaborating with a production house (PH). Actually, I have always wanted to be behind the scenes, but for now, my sustenance is just being an actor," Yusuf said, as quoted by ANTARA, Tuesday, April 26.

Yusuf said he did not limit himself in writing. He writes scenarios with various genres ranging from dramas, thrillers, to psychological thrillers.

"The most exciting thing is writing psychological dramas related to humans. I mostly write that are closer to humans. I have psychologist friends, so I can ask them what happens in the human brain when they experience something, what are the effects, something like that," he said.

Apart from writing screenplays, Yusuf said he would also like to try directing screenplays written by other writers.

"I haven't had the chance to direct someone's script, so all this time I've been writing it myself, directing it myself," he added.

Although he enjoys writing screenplays and dreams of becoming a director, Yusuf said he still enjoys his role in front of the screen as an actor. According to him, both in front of the screen and behind the screen, both have their own enjoyment.

Regarding over-the-top (OTT) platforms that have mushroomed since the COVID-19 pandemic, Yusuf assessed that this could be a great opportunity for filmmakers, including himself.

"For me, it's also a big opportunity. Because before the pandemic, those who made films in theaters were usually big people who already had names. With this platform, finally, many young filmmakers whose stories can be brought up to OTT," said Yusuf.

"I also finally made a series yesterday for one of the OTTs. It's like just learning to make films, having this opportunity, finally my friends and I make a series for OTT," he continued.

In the future, Yusuf hopes to make feature films. However, according to him, the process will take a long time, which is around 2-3 years.

"I feel, this feature film will be made when I am old enough to be able to bear the consequences, because the story is a little sentimental for some parties," said Yusuf.
