9 Indonesian Designers Appear At New York Indonesia Fashion Week 2022, Successfully Stole The World's Attention

JAKARTA - The New York Indonesia Fashion Week (NYIFW) 2022 was successfully held at the 48th Wall Street Events, New York, NY 10005, on February 11. NYIFW featured 7 designers from Indonesia, 1 designer from the Indonesian Diaspora, 1 from India and 1 from America.

Under the auspices of International Fashion and Art Week, the event initiated by Vanny Tousignant managed to astonish the world. As a producer, this Ambon-born woman has catapulted the names of nine Indonesian designers who have presented authentic Indonesian works in New York.

The nine designers are Septi Dwi Okana (Seinaa Hijab), Dian Narulita Hapsari (Kameela Hijabku), Dinda Damayanti (Azfoel by Dinda), Anita Gathmir (Puta Dino Kayangan), Mother-daughter collaboration, Popong Sopia (Epoy Production by Nazla Aisy Uhlaq), Made Dance (Sukamade Boutique), Meri Salmeri (Mary Indo), Dr. Rosaline Rumaseuw (Dr. RR Brand), and Vanny Tousignant's own work (Cinderella Indonesia collaboration).

The designers who display their work come from various regions in Indonesia, including Greater Jakarta, Bali, Maluku, to Papua. There is also an Indonesian designer who lives in the United States. In addition to displaying works from Indonesian designers, designers from India and America also gave color to the New York Indonesia Fashion Week 2022 runway.

“We just had a show that was super phenomenal and absolutely incredible. This show is no joke, held on Wall Street, which is where the world's business center is. The response of the people in New York is amazed, they admit it is magnificent," said Vanny Tousignant, Producer and Founder of New York Indonesia Fashion Week.

NYIFW 2022 carries the theme International Fashion and Art. The average designer who appears, successfully exhibits 12-18 looks from each of their designs. There is Septi Dwi Ocana who displays glamorous hijab fashion. Then Popong Sopia, a designer from Bandung, brought the theme of the Peacock.

“The most exciting gong is the work of a Bandung designer, with the theme Batik Merak Ngibing West Java. People were astonished to say they had never seen anything like it, like the Miss World election fashion parade. Besides that, there are also works from Papua with the theme of the Mambruk Bird, Batik Tidore by Indian designer featuring Sari, and myself bringing Batik Pamekasan, collaborating with Ciderella Indonesia," said Vanny, who won The Best Designer New York Fashion Week 2016 award.

In the New York Indonesia Fashion Week 2022 event, Vanny did not expect that many important guests were present. The area is full, unfortunately, it can only be filled by half the guests due to restrictions due to COVID-19.

“There are the Indonesian Consulate General in New York, the Consulate General of Singapore, Malaysia, India, Thailand, world fashion influencers, to fashion magazines from Milan, Amsterdam, and New York itself. It was a very exciting event,” continued Vanny, who has lived in New York for 30 years.

The success of New York Indonesia Fashion Week 2022, was recognized by Citra Bakti as Director of New York Indonesia Fashion Week. He helped Vanny a lot in realizing international performances. Persistence and hard work yield maximum results.

“To make this happen, Miss Vanny really did it herself. Even without financial support from the Indonesian government, he really wants to provide a stage for Indonesian designers so that Indonesia is increasingly known," said Citra.

In addition to the fashion show, Vanny Tousignant also talked about sustainable promotions. Where the collections of the designers who appear will be exhibited at a Rumah Shelter gallery in the New Jersey area. “I also provide and sponsor breakout events for small business fashion designers and the Indonesian community. The gallery's name is Indonesia Boutique & Arts but is known as Rumah Singgah, where designers can promote their designs in our storefronts free of charge. Well, this Shelter House is also unique. Apart from having a room to sell clothes, there is also a kitchen. Well, here we also sell souvenirs typical of Indonesia. There are chips, coffee, and various things," she explained.

With this event, Vanny admits that now many people around the world are increasingly literate with the hidden works of Indonesian designers.

The event was attended by the Consul General of New York, Consuls from Malaysia, Singapore, India, and many more. This event was designed or produced by an Indonesian woman born in Ambon named Vanny Tousignant.

She started her career as a designer and wanted to introduce Indonesia, which is very rich in culture and culture. So Vanny made her first show in 2017 with the brand "International Fashion and Arts Week".

After making 8 shows with the International Fashion and Arts Week brand, his dream is getting bigger to introduce Indonesian designers whose work is very beautiful, so the name New York Indonesia Fashion Week was formed in 2021.

And, for the first time in 2021, the New York Indonesia Fashion Week event was held and was quite successful and received rave reviews. For the second, then on February 11, 2022, Vanny and the team are very proud to present an event that will be phenomenal for Indonesia, especially the designers who appear.
