14.81 Million People From Jabodetabek Travel During Christmas And New Year Holidays, Number Of KRL Passengers Projected To Drop 50 Percent

JAKARTA - PT Kereta Commuter Indonesia (KCI) or KAI Commuter projects that the occupancy rate of Jabodetabek KRL passengers during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year (Nataru) holidays will decrease by 50 percent.

The projection is in line with the results of a survey by the Ministry of Transportation regarding the potential movement of the community during the Nataru holiday. Where, it is predicted that there is a potential movement of people from Jabodetabek who leave the area as many as 13.76 percent or 14.81 million people.

KCI Vice President Corporate Secretary, Anne Purba, said that her party did not plan to increase the frequency of train travel during the 2024 Nataru holiday.

"Unlike Jogja, Solo, we (Jabodetabek KRL) have a lack of users on the Nataru holiday. People go home. During Nataru it could be up to 50 percent (down)," he told reporters, written on Sunday, November 26.

Anne said the KRL is only crowded on weekdays and will be quiet when on weekends or national holidays. This is because mass transportation between cities is usually used to mobilize workers outside Jakarta to Jakarta.

Furthermore, said Anne, on D Christmas 2023 or New Year's Day 2024, KRL passengers will increase because there are seasonal users, although it will not be as crowded as on weekdays.

"Surely later in H, people who want to take the train and roads can increase. But it won't be as crowded as on weekdays," he said.

Anne ensured that although passengers were not as crowded as weekdays, KCI would not cut the frequency of Jabodetabek KRL trips during the 2024 Nataru holiday.

"If we are headway, yes. So if he (the passenger) is quiet or congested, he will continue. At least if for example it (there is a reduction) we will see certain hours for treatment. But what is called Commuter is not lacking (frequence)," said Anne.
