A Total Of 107.63 Million People Will Go Home During The Nataru Holiday, The Majority Use Private Cars

Minister of Transportation Budi Karya Sumadi revealed, as many as 107.63 million people are predicted to travel back and forth during the 2023 Christmas and 2024 New Year (Nataru) celebrations.

The majority of people's movements are still dominated by private cars.

"The mode of transportation used by private cars is number one, the prima donna is 35.57 percent or 39.9 million people," Budi said at the DPR Commission V Working Meeting, at the DPR Building, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, November 21.

After the private car, continued Budi, motorcycles are the second most transportation mode used by the public to travel, although very vulnerable.

"The number is 17.9 percent or the equivalent of 20.14 million people. Trains are 13.16 percent or 14.79 million people," he said.

Budi said the Ministry of Transportation would also start opening the 2024 Nataru Command Post from 19 December 2023 to 3 January 2024.

The peak period of the Christmas homecoming will fall on 22-23 December 2023 and backflow from 26-27 December 2023.

Meanwhile, the peak of homecoming on the New Year's holiday will fall on 29-30 December 2023, while the backflow is estimated to be 1-2 January 2024.

Budi said that the results of the survey by the Transportation Policy Agency (BKP) also stated that the background of people traveling on the Nataru 2024 holiday this time was the most to go to tourist sites, which was 45.29 percent.

Apart from wanting to take a vacation to tourist attractions, Budi said that the community's goal is to take a vacation home 30.15 percent.

Then, celebrating Nataru in his hometown was only 18.98 percent.

Meanwhile, the Head of Traffic Police, Inspector General Firman Shantyabudi, hopes that the number of accidents in Nataru this time will decrease compared to last year.

Therefore, he asked travelers who use private vehicles to obey during traffic.

"We are trying to comply with the community. We are also taking law enforcement activities that are oriented to compliance in carrying out holiday activities," he said.
