In order to open connectivity access in West Papua Province, PT Hutama Karya (Persero) completed the physical construction of the Jalan Muri-Kwaisore Phase I project earlier than the specified contract time.

"This road is completed faster than the original target of completion in February 2024, but the quality of roads, aesthetics to environmental sustainability is the main thing during its construction period," said Executive Vice President (EVP) Corporate Secretary Hutama Karya Tjahjo Purnomo quoted from the official website of Hutama Karya, Saturday, November 18.

The 16 km long road connecting Kampung Muri to Kwatisore West Papua has also been carried out in the sampling stage for the national road standard feasibility lab test.

"It will be handed over at the end of November 2023, and the local community can immediately pass the road," said Tjahjo.

Tjahjo said, in the construction of this road, his party carried out land excavation work, coarsening and paving of roads with box culvert crossing buildings and decker plates.

During the construction of this road, he continued, his party found many challenges ranging from weather conditions and nature which are still in the form of remote forests with geographical conditions that are quite difficult, to the difficulty of signals to communicate while in the field.

"The challenges faced in the field did not dampen the team's enthusiasm to complete the project on time and on quality by always implementing K3 in order to minimize work accidents in the field," he said.

The project work reached Rp137.8 billion by involving local communities in the construction of structures, such as the installation of stones, ironing, casting and several human resources (HR) which were empowered into mainstays (flagman) in the Muri-Kwaistore Road project so that they could collaborate to produce the best work.

Tjahjo hopes that the project, which is part of the Trans Papua Road, can open regional isolation and increase connectivity between regions.

"With the immediate presence of the Muri-Kwaistisore access road, it is hoped that it can facilitate logistical access from the West Papua border to Central Papua, make it easier for students and students to access trips to schools or universities, and can become a means of transportation to support the local community's economy," he added.

For your information, in completing this project, Hutama Karya also collaborated with local Papuan contractors, namely PT Gema Papua through Operational Cooperation (KSO) (Hutama-Gema Papua) with 70 percent of Hutama Karya each and 30 percent of Gema Papua.
