The Ministry of Industry (Kemenperin) said the remanufacturing industry supports efforts to reduce greenhouse gas emissions.

This was stated by the Director General of Resilience, Regional Affairs and International Industrial Access (KPAII) of the Ministry of Industry Eko SA Cahyanto at the Korea-Indonesia Machinery Remanufacturing Industry Special Exhibition & Seminar, recently.

"In the context of remanufacturing, sustainability and neutral emissions, it is very important to reduce waste generated from products that are no longer used, thus contributing positively to environmental protection and reducing the impact of climate change," said Eko in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, November 15.

Eko said, through the remanufacturing process, the efficiency of the use of natural resources, such as raw materials and energy, can be increased, preserve natural resources, and reduce overall production costs.

"The remanufacturing industry also has the potential to create new jobs in various sectors, including manufacturing, construction, and logistics, which in turn can contribute to improving the economy of a country," he said.

The remanufacturing industry itself is a freight recovery activity that has expired into products that are suitable for reuse with steps, such as dismantling, cleaning, repairing, and replacing damaged components.

This process provides high protection against added value of its original product, producing products that are "like new" and often sold on a warranty equivalent to new products.

The advantages of the remanufacturing industry involve better product quality, longer durability, more efficient energy use than recycling, and the potential for creating new jobs.

"The rapid growth of this industry is driven by environmental awareness, waste reduction, and potential to improve the economy," said Eko.

According to Eko, the remanufacturing industry is part of the implementation of the circular economy. This concept has the main goal of extending the life cycle of a product, raw materials and resources.

"The purpose of its application is, among others, to deal with environmental pollution which includes reducing waste and pollution, using the maximum value of a product, raw materials and resources, as well as recovering a product, raw materials and resources at the final level of use," he said.

Meanwhile, based on the Regulation of the Minister of Trade (Permendag) Number 25 of 2022 concerning Amendments to the Regulation of the Minister of Trade Number 20 of 2021 concerning Policy and Import Regulation, what is meant by remanufacturing companies is a company that is included in the Classification of the Indonesia Business Field Baku (KBLI) 28240 which imports the Classification of the Indonesian Business Field Standard (KBLI) 28240 which imports Capital Goods in Non-New Conditions (BMTB).

These items are in the form of non-new heavy equipment components to be processed into end products and/or increase their function with technical specifications equivalent to new products and are budgeted by brand holders in the context of export destinations and/or fulfill orders from domestic direct user companies.
