JAKARTA - Presidential Candidate (Readpres) Anies Baswedan plans to separate the Directorate General of Taxes and Directorate General of Customs from the Ministry of Finance (Kemenkeu) if he is elected as president in the upcoming 2024 presidential election.

Furthermore, Anies said, a State Revenue Agency needs to be formed which unites the Directorate General of Taxes and the Directorate General of Customs and Excise.

Later, this agency will be under the direct supervision of the president.

"We see that at the state level there needs to be a realization of the State Revenue Agency. This will be one of our own which will integrate coordination in all related to state revenues so that it becomes one," said Anies at the Indonesian Economist 100 Sarasehan event, in Jakarta, Wednesday, November 8.

The former governor of DKI Jakarta explained that this agency has an important role in dealing with the potential economic crisis, and has a role to play in supporting economic growth.

Even so, Anies emphasized that the implementation of the formation of the State Revenue Agency cannot be done quickly.

He said, it will take a while because there will be a big change.

"But I want to increase what is called the creation of a new institution, it can't be like Proclamation in the shortest possible time. If the tempo is as short as possible, it will be chaotic later. There must be a smooth transition," said Anies.

In an effort to suppress the state budget deficit, continued Anies, it is also necessary to harmonize the role of the central government and local governments.

This includes mapping tax objects that can become revenues for the state.

In addition, said Anies, it is also necessary to encourage industrialization so that it has an impact on state revenues.

"In the context of state revenue, then encourage industrialization, because it becomes crucial," he explained.

In terms of expenditure, Anies continued, efficiency of government projects also needs to be carried out, thus reducing the amount of investment costs.

He admitted that he did not want the duplication of programs between ministries/agencies and local governments.

On this occasion, Anies also highlighted the provision of subsidies. He admitted that he wanted to encourage the provision of subsidies so that they were more targeted.

"The name duplication of the program is multiple, as long as it exists, it's troublesome. Then the inaccuracy of the subsidy target, whatever it is, starts from electricity to social assistance," he said.
