Exceeding Target, Dense Cash Settlements Absorb 69,532 Workers As Of November 2023

JAKARTA - The Ministry of Public Works and Public Housing continues to accelerate the realization of the 2023 Labor Intensive Program through cash for work (PKT) scheme.

It was recorded that as of November 6, 2023, the achievement of physical work on Community-Based Infrastructure (IBM) in residential areas reached 82.84 percent with labor absorption of 69,532 people or greater than the target of 67,788 workers.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono said the PKT program of the Ministry of PUPR was carried out through infrastructure development involving the community or local residents as development actors, especially small-scale infrastructure or simple jobs that did not require technology.

"The construction of labor-intensive infrastructure aims to create jobs and increase people's purchasing power, PKT also aims to distribute funds to villages or remote areas," Minister Basuki said in a written statement, quoted Wednesday, November 8.

In the 2023 Fiscal Year (TA), the PKT budget for settlements is allocated Rp2.2 trillion which is distributed in 6,111 locations through the construction of populist infrastructure.

The people's infrastructure in question, such as the Community-Based Drinking Water and Community-Based Sanitation Program (Pamsimas), Community-Based Sanitation (Sanimas), support for Sanitation of Religious Education Institutions, including Islamic Boarding Schools, Waste Management Places. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle (TPS3R), and Regional Socio-Economic Infrastructure Development (PISEW).

This activity aims to expand employment and encourage the community's economy with an absorption of finance of 92.16 percent of the total budget of IDR 2.2 trillion or around IDR 2 trillion.

At TA 2023, the Directorate General of Human Settlements carried out the Pamsimas program in 1,069 locations with physical progress of 80.17 percent and absorbed 11,224 workers.

Then, for Sanimas in 1,890 locations and 21,467 workers with a physical progress of 78.24 percent.

Another labor-intensive program in the field of settlements is the sanitation construction of Islamic boarding schools/religious education institutions spread across 1,550 locations in Indonesia.

The implementation of this program includes the construction of MCK buildings consisting of toilets and toilets/toilets, ablution places, hand washing facilities and clothing washing stations, as well as domestic wastewater treatment installations with physical progress of 72.21 percent and absorbing 13,304 workers.

Furthermore, the construction of the Reduce Waste Management Site, Reuse, Recycle (TPS3R) which in 2023 will be carried out in 262 locations with physical progress reaching 59.71 percent and absorbing 2,657 workers.

The construction of TPS3R by involving the community is expected not only to reduce the quantity of waste from the source, but also to provide learning and direct practice to the community in waste management, while on the other hand there is also employment because it is carried out with a labor-intensive scheme.

Finally, the PISEW program, which is targeted to reach 1,340 locations with a budget allocation of Rp670 billion for 21,541 workers. Currently, the progress has been carried out at 98.61 percent and spread over 1,337 locations with an absorption of 20,880 workers.
