The Coordinating Ministry For Central Marves Prepares An Overseas Carbon Trading Umbrella

JAKARTA - The Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Investment (Kemenko Marves) is preparing a legal umbrella for foreign carbon trading.

Deputy for Coordination of Environmental and Forestry Management at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries, Nani Hendiarti, said that the Indonesian carbon exchange had begun to be looked at by several countries to start discussing carbon trading.

"Yes, it's already there. It's not related, the term is interested in discussions, there are already several countries where there are demand," said Nani when met at the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Office, Tuesday, October 31.

Nani was also reluctant to specify which names of countries have paid attention to foreign carbon trade and are still waiting until the regulation is completed.

Nani further explained that the carbon trade-related regulations will be presented at the 2023 UN Climate Change Conference or COP-28 in Dubai, United Arab Emirates (UAE) on November 30.

"Yes, if the foreign carbon trade is still being processed, it will be on November 8 before COP28 or ahead of the COP in Dubai, our target. Before COP Dubai there will be an update," said Nani.

This is in line with the statement by the Coordinating Minister for Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Ad Interim Erick Thohir when responding to issues related to carbon trading, currently the Coordinating Ministry for Maritime Affairs and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry are coordinating the completion of the regulation and legal umbrella for policies on Foreign Carbon Trading.

This step is important so that a Steering Committee Meeting is held for the Implementation of Carbon Economic Values and so that the regulation can be completed before COP 28 of the UAE on November 30, 2023.

"Therefore, it is highly hoped that strong support from related Ministries / Agencies, especially the Ministry of Environment and Forestry, the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources, the Ministry of Finance, and the State Secretariat regarding the completion of the regulation and legal umbrella for foreign carbon trading policies," said Erick at the Coordination Meeting with 14 K/L.
