Angkasa Pura I Increases YIA Airport Security Standards

JAKARTA - PT Angkasa Pura I (AP1) together with the airports Council International (ACI) world airport organization held an Airport Excellence (APEX) in Security activity at Yogyakarta International Airport (YIA).

The activity which also involves various relevant stakeholders in the airport sector will take place from Monday, September 11 to Friday, September 15.

APEX in Security is a program initiated by ACI to conduct assessments and reviews of applicable security standards at airports based on parameters set in ICAO Annex and ICAO Document.

This program also aims to provide assistance for airport managers who are members of ACI to increase airport security standards.

AP1 Operations Director MMA Indah Preastuty stated that Yogyakarta International Airport is an airport that has a vital role as a gateway to one of the Super Priority Tourism Destinations (DPSP), namely Borobudur Temple, and has enormous business potential.

"AP1 as an airport manager is always committed to improving service quality through the implementation of a number of collaborative steps with various stakeholders, one of which is ACI," said Indah in a written statement received by VOI, quoted on Tuesday, September 12.

Indah added that airport security standards are very important aspects of the aviation industry. The APEX in Security program initiated by ACI aims to harmonize compliance with regulations with daily airport operational needs, as well as to maximize operational efficiency.

"At the same time increasing security standards, in this context it is at Yogyakarta International Airport," he said.

During the APEX in Security implementation, the assessor and observer team from ACI consisting of experts in the field of aviation from various countries conducted assessments and reviews of a number of security aspects of YIA Airport, including human resources, facilities, documents, and quality management. management.

In the HR aspect, ACI conducts a review of the recruitment process, background check, and training for Airport Security personnel.

For the facility aspect, the things that are reviewed are related to perimeter area protection, terminal design, access line supervision, inspection of airport security facilities and equipment, and airport landside area security.

In terms of documents, the assessor team from ACI carried out a review of all documents related to airport security standards, such as Airport Security Program (ASP), security SOP documents, as well as a review of risk management.

Meanwhile, for quality management or quality management aspects, the things reviewed are related to security culture, internal audits, reporting and monitoring, and continuous improvements.

Previously, APEX in Security had been held since 2016 at five AP1 airports, namely at Bali's I Gusti Ngurah Rai Airport and Bali's Sepinggan Balikpapan SAMS Airport in 2016, at Sultan Hasanuddin Airport in Makassar and Juanda Airport in Surabaya in 2017, as well as at Jenderal Ahmad Yani Airport in Semarang in 2019.

"We hope that through participating AP1 in the APEX in Security program, we can further improve the standard airport security system at YIA Airport, which will ultimately contribute directly to improving service standards to airport service users," concluded Indah.
