JAKARTA - Medco Energi Bangkanai Limited (Medco Energi) and PT PLN (Persero) signed a sale and purchase agreement for electricity and the construction of customer electrical installations.

VP Relations & Security Medco E&P Arif Rinaldi explained, this collaboration is a company's step to mitigate greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions and as an effort to achieve the national oil and gas targets set by the government.

"In this agreement, PLN will supply electricity of 865 KVA for Medco Energi operations," he told the media, Saturday, July 8.

Furthermore, he explained, the company took the initiative to transfer the electricity supply of the Bangkanai Karendan Gas Processing Facility (KGPF) from the engine generator gas to PLN which will supply electricity.

"This is one of Medco Energi's efforts to ensure business continuity by taking advantage of existing natural resources responsibly and ensuring that the surrounding environment is maintained," explained Arif.

He continued, this initiative will also increase the efficiency of operating costs of the Medco Energi refinery in Bangkanai.

The Company's steps to reduce greenhouse gas emissions are to reduce energy use so as to increase asset operational efficiency and also increase energy consumption from renewable energy sources.

"This is reflected in the achievement of various GHG emission reduction initiatives in assets in 2022, with an estimated reduction of 79,000 tCO2e/year," said Arif.

He added, with this collaboration, Medco Energi Bangkanai Limited can reduce CO2 emissions by 2,708 tCO2e per year.

In addition, this initiative also saves the use of gas fuel and makes gas sales 0.15 bbtud.
