Visits of Foreign Tourists from Europe and the US Show a Positive Trend until April 2023

JAKARTA - Deputy for Strategic Policy at the Ministry of Tourism and Creative Economy (Kemenparekraf) Nia Niscaya revealed that foreign tourist visits from Europe and the United States showed a positive trend from January to April 2023.

"Performance from January to April 2023 from the European region was 532,000, up 680 percent compared to the same period last year," said Nia in the Virtual Weekly Brief with Sandi Uno which was held Monday, reported by Antara.

Meanwhile, visits by foreign tourists from the United States, he continued, from January to April 2023 reached 108.4 thousand, an increase of 652 percent. "So the growth is positive from these two continents," he explained.

Even though Europe has experienced a recession and the United States also has the potential to experience a similar thing, the impact of the recession on tourist visits to Indonesia this month still needs time to complete.

From the other side, Nia said, Indonesia is one of the countries in the Asian region that is most searched on the internet.

"This shows that Indonesia is at the top of mind in the US market, the challenge is how do we convert from search hits to travel, so digitally speaking top of mind has entered," he concluded.

Previously, the Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy (Menparekraf) Sandiaga Uno believed that the impact of the recession in Europe and the United States would not interfere with the target of achieving 8.5 million foreign tourist visits to Indonesia in 2023.

"Those who are entering the recession zone are not only Europe but also the United States, there will definitely be an impact, but we believe that the target of tourist arrivals from Europe and the United States is still in line with what we have planned and in fact we are increasing it to 8.5 million in total. said Sandiaga.

He added, his party is also trying to make potential tourists affected by this recession actually take advantage of this momentum to refresh or heal mental stress by traveling or what is known as healing.
