Deputy Minister Of Environment And Forestry Calls Indonesia Lumbung A Renewable Energy Source

JAKARTA - Deputy Minister of Environment and Forestry (Wamen LHK) Alue Dohong said that Indonesia, which has a variety of natural resources (SDA), is actually a renewable energy barn.

"Indonesia is a new renewable energy barn, it's heaven if I say," he said at the Indonesia Net-Zero Summit 2023 at the Djakarta Theater XXI, Jakarta, quoted from Antara, Saturday.

He explained several renewable energy sources, including wind power, solar power, bioenergy and hydroelectric power plants.

According to him, Indonesia is a super power country for new renewable energy sources such as hydropower, geothermal, bayu, solar panels, biofuels, and so on.

For geothermal or geothermal, he said, Indonesia has great potential through forest areas and conservation of 4 gigawatts at this time.

In addition, Indonesia also has an area of 13.43 million hectares (ha) of peatlands while hydrological peat units covering an area of 24 million ha which is stored 38 to 55 carbon gigatons.

"Far from the 36 million gigatons that our target is to be global. We just have to protect it (Indonesian peatland)," he said.

Not only that, Indonesia also has a mangrove area of 3.14 million ha with carbon stored in the Indonesian mangrove ecosystem estimated at 3 gigatons.

"We protect the two ecosystems (land peat and mangrove areas) and protect them, it means a lot," said Alue Dohong.
