Preparing Free Homecoming, Minister Of Transportation Asks People Not To Use Motorbikes

JAKARTA - The Minister of Transportation (Menhub) Budi Karya Sumadi appealed to the public not to use motorbikes for the 2023 Eid homecoming. This is because going home by motorcycle is a high risk.

Furthermore, Budi advised the public to take advantage of the free homecoming facility from the Ministry of Transportation. Various modes of transportation, said Budi, have been prepared by his side.

There are three choices of modes of transportation that can be used for the Ministry of Transportation's free homecoming during the 2023 Eid homecoming period.

First, free motorbike homecoming by train. Where people can bring their two-wheeled vehicles with a series of trains that are boarded. So, travelers and their vehicles can arrive at the same time.

Second, free homecoming by bus. The Ministry of Transportation through the Directorate General of Hubdat provides as many as 24,072 free homecoming quotas consisting of 18,528 people for homecoming with 459 buses and 5,544 people for returning home with 126 buses.

Third, going home by ship. DG Hubla provides. the quota is 2,500 passengers per trip and 1,250 motorbikes per trip so the total homecoming quota is 5,000 people and 2,500 motorbikes. Meanwhile, 5,000 people and 2,500 motorcycles returned.

"We advise you not to go home using a motorbike. So we are holding (free homecoming) by land, sea, train for going home," he said in a meeting with Commission V of the DPR, Parliament Complex, Senayan, Jakarta, Tuesday, April 4.

Based on the results of a survey conducted by the Ministry of Transportation's Transportation Policy Agency, this year it is projected that there will be 25.13 million travelers using motorbikes.

To reduce the number of travelers on motorbikes, Minister of Transportation Budi also requested that private companies present a homecoming program with employees.

"We recommend that the private sector does not even use the homecoming facilities that we have created, each company should also make (the free homecoming program). There is no exception for those in Karawang or those in Bandung, they make homecoming together using their respective buses," he said.
