JAKARTA - PT Semen Indonesia (Persero) Tbk (SIG) applies surface mining techniques.
SIG Corporate Secretary, Vita Mahreyni said the application of surface mining techniques which had started in 2012 was a form of improvisation in mining activities carried out by SIG to overcome the direct impacts caused by mining with blasting techniques in locations close to residential areas at a distance of 500 to 700 meters.
"Dissolving using surface mining techniques has advantages, including minimizing the incidence of dust, noise, and vibration pollution," she said in a statement to the media, Friday, March 24.
In addition, she continued, this technique also improves the quality of run-off mine because it is carried out using a selective mining method, and forms a clean and stable excavation terrace surface.
"In addition to mining in a sustainable manner, SIG also restores post-mining land by carrying out reclamation by planting various types of trees, including teak, johor, mahogany, sengon, flamboyan, trembesi, kesambi, and juwet. As of February 2023, SIG has carried out land reclamation after limestone mining at the Tuban Factory covering an area of 313.36 hectares, and planted 533,200 trees," said Vita Mahreyni.
Vita Mahreyni added that the reclamation program implemented by SIG involved 527 assisted farmers who were members of 24 groups to work on the green belt land. Farmers are provided with production facilities, training, and education regarding effective, efficient, and environmentally sustainable agricultural innovations.

Just so you know, as a company that runs the mining sector, SIG supports the government's efforts to realize sustainable mining. One of the GIS factories in Tuban Regency, East Java, to be precise in the southern part of the limestone mining area which is 700 meters from the residential area, starting in 2012 has applied surface mining techniques.
Surface mining is a mining technique without blasting that is carried out on the surface using a mobile milling machine, a surface miner engine power 950 HP, for the cleavage of limestone as a raw material. This tool has a dredging capacity of 300 tons of material per hour. Meanwhile, the collection of material resulting from splitting is carried out using a wheel loader.
