JAKARTA - An automotive company from Italy, PT Piaggio Indonesia, officially has a motorcycle factory in the country, which has started construction since the laying of the first stone on November 9, 2021.

"Today's inauguration is very monumental, starting from the laying of the first stone which I did on November 9, 2021 and today we witness that the production facility has started its commercial operations with an initial production capacity of 10,000 units per year," said Minister of Industry (Menperin) Agus Gumiwang Kartasasmita during the inauguration of the Piaggio factory in Cikarang, quoted from Antara, Thursday, November 24.

According to him, the Piaggio Group production facility on an area of six hectares was built quite quickly and has now entered the commercial phase. He appreciated the new investment, job creation, increased production of two-wheeled vehicles, and added value domestically with the opening of the new factory.

The Minister of Industry hopes that this will be a new milestone in increasing cooperation between Indonesia and Italy. The factory operation, he said, is an example of an industrial condition that is currently optimistic and continues to grow.

"This inauguration is proof that the industry continues to expand and contribute to Indonesia's economic growth," he said.

The Minister of Industry asked Piaggio to increase the use of local components, especially components produced by the Small and Medium Industries (IKM) and support IKM components to enter Piaggio's global supply chain.

Furthermore, the Minister of Industry supports Piaggio Indonesia to continue to increase its production capacity, increase the introduction of domestic production vehicle line-ups, and ultimately make Indonesia a production base and export base.

During the inauguration of the factory, Piaggio Indonesia also introduced Vespa Batik, the result of a combination of Italian technology and Indonesian local wisdom.

"This shows that Piaggio produces vehicles with full attention, including in terms of product design," said the Minister of Industry.

The special edition Vespa Batik represents a proud blend of well-known Italian cultural icons and Indonesian artistic heritage, and symbolizes commitment to the Indonesian market.

Piaggio Group Chief Executive of Product and Global Strategy Michele Colaninno said the opening of the Piaggio Indonesia factory was one of the milestones in continuing the Piaggio Group's vision of prioritizing customer-centric commitments worldwide and also in Asia.

"Like all Piaggio Group manufacturing facilities, the new factory meets the Piaggio Global Factory Standards that are applied worldwide," he added.
