JAKARTA - The Special Task Force for Upstream Oil and Gas Business Activities (SKK Migas) reported that sub-volcanic seismic survey activities on Java Island had reached 820 km or 82 percent of the 1.000 km target.

Head of SKK Migas Dwi Soetjipto said the Java subvolcanic seismic survey was part of the Indonesia Exploration Blueprint and strategy, which was to explore the potential for hydrocarbons covered by volcanic eruptions.

"The hard work and commitment to complete this activity has been well demonstrated, with the current achievement having successfully completed 820 km or 82% of the 1,000 km target in the Java subvolcanic seismic survey, which is targeted to be completed in September 2022," said Dwi to reporters, Tuesday 7 June

SKK Migas, continued Dwi, has encouraged KKKS to carry out massive exploration survey activities, carried out through exploration survey activities on land, sea, and air as part of efforts to achieve the target of data availability for 128 Basins that Indonesia has until 2024, as proclaimed by the Minister of Energy and Mineral Resources.

"We on behalf of SKK Migas management appreciate all parties who have worked hard in this activity, especially Pertamina which has carried out massive exploration activities, namely the implementation of 2D seismic survey activities at sea in an open area of 32.000 km in 2019-2020 ago, and full tensor gravity (FTG) using aircraft at Bird Head and Akimeugah which will be completed by the end of 2021," added Dwi.

Dwi added that the activities carried out by Pertamina were part of the Definite Work Commitment for the Jambi Merang Working Area.

Pertamina, as the holder of the largest and widest working area in Indonesia, currently has 41 Oil and Gas WKs with an area of approximately 204,494 km2, consisting of: 23 Pertamina WKs as operators, 3 WKs in the form of Joint Operational Body (BOB)/JOB, 14 Pertamina WKs as a Partner/Non-Operator, of course, it is highly expected to continue to carry out massive exploration activities.

In addition, Dwi also reminded that what was being done was far from finished, because after the survey and data processing there were still further activities to be carried out and required optimal efforts for exploration activities, namely the acceleration of drilling exploration wells, where from the planned drilling of 24 exploration wells by Pertamina Group in 2022, until now only 7 wells have been realized.

"We also hope that Pertamina can accelerate the monetization of undeveloped discovery which can increase production in the near future, then the acceleration of the Kutei-Barito FTG and the Mamberamo Area, and of course other steps to accelerate the exploration of sleeping areas in Pertamina," concluded Dwi.
