JAKARTA - Minister of Tourism and Creative Economy Sandiaga Uno and Chairman of the National Secretariat of Indonesian Keris (SNKI) Fadli Zon are trying to make the keris a part of the creative economy.

"Keris can be a creative economy," said Sandiaga Uno while attending the 16th Anniversary of SNKI and National Keris Day, in Depok, West Java, quoted from Antara, Wednesday, April 20.

Sandiaga said the keris can absorb labor. He said he was ready to collaborate with SNKI to increase the spirit of keris craftsmen in Indonesia.

Moreover, he said, the keris is a cultural heritage of the archipelago that has been recognized by the world so it must be preserved.

Meanwhile, Fadli Zon said that the keris can be a part of the creative economy.

Fadli Zon said that currently there is a Keris Certification Agency that oversees 29 jobs. To make the kris more passionate, Fadli will try to make the kris a place among millennials.

Fadli Zon also said that when he was Deputy Speaker of the DPR, he always gave souvenirs in the form of a keris to his guests, especially those from abroad.

He said the keris is not only found on the island of Java, but from all over the archipelago from Aceh to Papua.

Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education and Culture stated that after being designated an intangible cultural heritage by UNESCO (UN Agency for Education, Science, and Culture) in 2008, Indonesian kris have supported the people's economic activities.

This support can be seen in the increase in Indonesian keris producers in the community. In addition, there is a modification of the promotion method that has a positive impact on the reach of the Indonesian keris market.
