JAKARTA - The chairman of the DPD RI, AA LaNyalla Mahmud Mattalitti, asked the government to immediately take tactical and strategic steps to overcome the scarcity and high cost of a number of commodities.

He also asked President Joko Widodo to immediately intervene if his assistants were not able to work quickly to provide commodities that are needed by the community at affordable prices.

“The public interest related to the need for important commodities must be resolved as soon as possible. The government should not invite the people's anger," said LaNyalla, in Jakarta, Sunday (27/3/2022).

The senator from East Java hopes that the community will no longer have difficulties and be able to reach the prices of commodities needed for daily life.

"I remind the government to be more focused and serious in resolving the polemics that occur, namely the scarcity of several basic commodities that concern the livelihoods of many people, including subsidized diesel fuel," he said.

LaNyalla said basic necessities and fuel are very important for the survival of life and economic activity in the real sector. According to him, with adequate infrastructure support, the government must ensure the distribution of commodities runs smoothly so as not to exacerbate the shortage.

"Because of scarcity and poor distribution, social destruction will be very easy to trigger. Moreover, social cohesion has been eroded due to sharp political polarization in society. This is the potential for anarchism," he explained.

LaNyalla admitted that she couldn't believe that a number of basic necessities needed by the community were disappearing one by one and becoming expensive in the market. He judged that there was something wrong in the process.

"It could be that the weakness is in the quota planning, or the leakage of DMO (Domestic Market Obligation), or distribution management, or even a cartel playing to take advantage of the big profits that are quickly obtained, all possibilities must be examined one by one," he said.

Previously, people were faced with a number of problems ahead of Ramadan. Apart from polemics

which was rare and expensive, recently solar has also become scarce. Even long queues occur in some areas.
