IKN Development Becomes An Event For Architects To Show Creativity

JAKARTA - Minister of Public Works and Public Housing (PUPR) Basuki Hadimuljono assessed that the construction of the State Capital or IKN could be a great opportunity for Indonesian architects.

“The relocation of the capital city is a big leap towards a new Indonesia that will provide great opportunities as well as great challenges for architects, urban planners, urban design specialists, and engineers to contribute and collaborate. We really welcome new ideas and creativity based on the philosophy of a modern city that is still combined with local wisdom," said Minister Basuki in a written statement received in Jakarta, Saturday, February 19.

PUPR Minister Basuki Hadimuljono encouraged the involvement of architects to channel ideas and creativity in supporting the infrastructure development of State Capital (IKN) Nusantara in East Kalimantan Province (Kaltim).

The contribution of architects is needed in the development of IKN which implements three pillars, namely reflecting national identity, ensuring social, economic, and environmental sustainability, and realizing a smart, modern, and international standard city.

According to Minister Basuki, IKN development is not just moving cities and central government buildings but also planning a modern urban center as a Future Smart Forest City of Indonesia.

The Ministry of PUPR has compiled a planning document from the macro stage and the meso stage, now is the time to enter the micro design stage including the Detailed Engineering Design as a reference for the implementation of the physical development of the Nusantara IKN.

Basuki hopes that the three pillars of the new IKN's vision and goals will be a reflection of the nation's progress, so that it can be used as an example for the development of other cities in Indonesia. Reflecting the nation's identity which is translated into urban design philosophically from the pillars of nationality, namely Pancasila, Bhinneka Tunggal Ika, NKRI, and the 1945 Constitution.

Furthermore, the new IKN must demonstrate the sustainability of social, economic, and environmental aspects of life. Therefore, the new IKN development concept minimizes interference with nature, integrates green and blue spaces, and maintains the existence of Kalimantan's forests.

Then, IKN is a smart and modern city with international standards. The new IKN has become a compact city, relying on information and communication technology to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).
