Failure To The 2023 Asian Games Semifinals Colored By Controversy, Indonesian Women's Kriket Team Launches Protests

JAKARTA The journey of the Indonesian women's cricket national team at the Hangzhou 2023 Asian Games was stopped in the quarter-finals in an unpleasant way.

Their dream of staying in this prestigious four-year event had to go away due to heavy rains in Hangzhou which prevented the match against Pakistan from being held.

The match was supposed to take place at the Pingfeng Kriket Field, Zhejiang University of Technology, Thursday, September 21 at 14.00 local time. Unfortunately, the heavy rain made the match canceled.

Instead of rescheduled the match, Pakistan was given a ticket to qualify for the semifinals. Chairman of the Indonesian Kriket Association Abhiram Singh said that because Pakistan's world ranking was much better than Indonesia.

"For Indonesia against Pakistan, the results have no results. However, because Pakistan's world ranking is higher, they are entitled to the semifinals," he said.

Abhiram said that the decision was very detrimental to the sport he leads. Therefore, they also took steps to protest through the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC).

"Of course we are disadvantaged. Therefore, we are trying to protest through the Indonesian Olympic Committee (NOC). Earlier we sent a complete chronology for materials for NOC at the Chef de Mission (CdM) meeting. Hopefully there will be a solution," he said.

The women's cricket national team is one of the favorites in the biggest multi-sport event in Asia. They previously won a landslide over Mongolia in the preliminary round of Group A.

Meanwhile, Pakistan qualified for the semifinals without playing a single match. Referring to the ranking of the world women's cricket team, Pakistan currently occupies the seventh position. Meanwhile, Indonesia is ranked 21st.
