Aiming For Chelsea Captain, Madrid Prepares IDR 823 Billion

JAKARTA The closure of the transfer market did not dampen Real Madrid's list of target players. In fact, Los Blancos are claimed to place the name of Chelsea captain Reece James as a priority target in the summer of 2025.

James is considered Madrid as a long-term replacement for Dani Carvajal. The 23-year-old has been branded one of the best full-backs in the world. In addition, he was recently also appointed Chelsea's new captain by Mauricio Pochettino after Cesar Azpilicueta's departure.

In 148 appearances across competitions, James has scored 11 goals and 20 assists. He went through a very productive season in the 2021-2022 season, scoring six goals and providing 10 assists in 39 games across competitions.

This made the Blues tie him up with a new six-year contract in September last year. However, that did not prevent Real Madrid from monitoring the England international.

But, with Dani Carvajal, who will turn 33 by 2025, Los Blancos hopes to bring in James. They also hope that the brilliant start of Jude Bellingham at the Santiago Bernabeu (five goals in four games) will lure his compatriots to the Spanish capital.

Despite intending to bring him in, Real Madrid is still wary of the player's poor record injury. Reece James has missed 50 games since the 2020-2021 season. Currently he has to pull out due to a thigh injury, and has only played once in the 2023-2024 season.
