Inter Miami Goalkeeper Fired Due To Lionel Messi's Transfer Criticism

JAKARTA David Beckham officially terminated Inter Miami goalkeeper Nick Marsman's contract following his strong criticism of the club's decision to sign Lionel Messi.

Marsman on one occasion said the Florida-based club was not ready to sign the owner of the Ballon d'Or. It was conveyed when Messi had not been officially announced.

"I personally think that this club isn't ready for Messi's arrival," he said in June as reported by SportsBible.

Marsman explained that one of the club's unpreparedness was related to the level of security at the club. He said players like Messi would definitely need extra security.

"We have a temporary stadium, people can walk in the field, there are no gates. We also go to the stadium without security. I don't think they are ready yet," he said.

This statement then forced the club to terminate the goalkeeper's contract. In fact, he actually still has one year left in the cooperation agreement.

MLS allows each team to terminate a contract in one season so Beckham takes advantage of the regulation to the former Feyenoord player who is now a free agent.

"Inter Miami CF today announced that it has used the right to purchase the Salary Budget Charge over goalkeeper Nick Marsman's contract at Major League Soccer (MLS)," the club said in a statement.

Marsman signed a contract with Inter Miami in April 2021 and played 32 games for the club before being released.
