JAKARTA - President Joko Widodo (Jokowi) handed over bonuses to the 2023 ASEAN Para Games medalists at the Merdeka Palace courtyard, Jakarta, Monday, July 3.
On this occasion, Jokowi asked ASEAN Para Games athletes to take advantage of bonuses received from the government. He suggested that the bonus be invested in or purchased long-term investment instruments/ goods.
"I want to give a little message really using this existing bonus to keep practicing and spur achievements, don't buy luxury goods. Buy goods for long-term investment because the money is really big", said President Jokowi, as reported by Antara.
To note, the Indonesian contingent at the ASEAN Para Games managed to bring home 158 gold medals, 148 silver and 95 bronze medals.
The government gave a bonus worth a total of IDR 320.5 billion, with details of gold medalists getting IDR 525 million, silver medalists IDR 315 million, and bronze medalists IDR 157.5 million.
The President asked for the bonus to be invested properly and well, because the amount given was not small.
The President thanked the athletes, coaches and assistant coaches as well as the entire contingent for their persistence and hard work in making the nation and state proud.
"The nation, state and people are very proud of you, ladies and gentlemen who have won the overall champion at the 2023 ASEAN Para Games. This is the third time in a row, thank you again", said the President.
