BWF World Tour Finals 2022: Fajar/Rian Still Qualify for the Semifinals Despite Losing, Ginting Helps Jojo

JAKARTA - Men's doubles Fajar Alfian/Muhammad Rian Ardianto are certain to get a ticket to the semifinals of the 2022 BWF World Tour Finals even though they lost in the last match of the Group A phase.

Fajar/Rian previously collected two wins before losing 21-10, 17-21, 19-21 when they met the third seeds from Malaysia Ong Yew Sin/Teo Ee Yi at the Nimibutr Arena, Bangkok, Thailand, Friday, 9 December 2022.

The success of Fajar/Rian made Indonesia pocket a total of four tickets to the event's semifinals, which only involved the eight best representatives from the five sectors. The details are two tickets for the men's doubles and the other two for the men's singles.

Fajar/Rian followed the steps of their senior Hendra Setiawan/Mohammad Ahsan who had already confirmed tickets last Thursday.

Meanwhile, Jonatan Christie and Anthony Sinisuka Ginting won two other tickets for the men's singles. Jonatan was confirmed to qualify after Anthony Ginting won in the last match against Loh Kean Yew with a score of 21-12, 23-21.

Ginting escaped perfectly after collecting three wins in the group phase. Meanwhile, Jonathan won twice over Loh Kean Yew and Chou Tien Chen after losing the first match against Anthony.

Unfortunately, the journey of all Indonesian representatives in the women's number had to stop in the group stage following the failure of the women's doubles by Apriyani Rahayu/Siti Fadia Silva Ramadhanti and women's singles by Gregoria Mariska Tunjung.
