JAKARTA - Former world number one Roger Federer will play against Kate Middleton to raise a charity fund. Later the funds will be given to children who are less fortunate in the UK.

The Duchess of Cambridge will face the Swiss player next month in a Laver Cup series. However, this friendly match will take place in a secret location.

Information regarding the charity match has been released by Kensington Palace and the Laver Cup organization through their respective social media networks.

"Laver Cup and The Duchess of Cambridge will join forces to raise money for two UK-based charities, the @actnforchildren program and the @the_LTA Serves program," the Laver Cup wrote on Twitter.

The tweet was later re-shared by Federer, who has not played tennis since losing to Poland's Hubert Hurkacz in the quarter-finals of Wimbledon last year.

Throughout 2021 Federer recorded only playing as many as 13 matches. In addition, he underwent knee surgery twice in the previous year, making him only play six times.

However, Federer is reportedly recovering from injury and is ready to play again. Next month's charity event will work as expected as he was previously expected to return to the field between August and September.

"Excited to announce that the Laver Cup will partner with the Duchess of Cambridge this year to raise funds for two incredible charities," Federer wrote.

The Laver Cup will take place from September 23 to 25 at the O2 Arena pavilion, London, England. The day before the D day, all players will warm up which can be accessed by the public by purchasing tickets.

Besides Federer, the tournament is also expected to bring other top players such as Rafael Nadal and Novak Djokovic. The event pits six of the best players in Europe against six from around the world over the weekend.
