Lewis Hamilton And George Russell Haven't Been So Competitive In F1 2022, Mercedes Crew Overtime During Easter Break

JAKARTA - Mercedes GP's performance in the 2022 Formula 1 (F1) event has not been so convincing. Lewis Hamilton, who in the last few seasons has always been a contender for the title, now looks normal.

Likewise with George Russell, although his performance is better than Hamilton. This makes Mercedes GP continue to work hard to get a more competitive car to compete with Ferrari and also Red Bull Racing.

In fact, according to Mercedes GP boss Toto Wolff, his party worked hard throughout the Easter holidays to fix their car to cut the distance from Ferrari and Red Bull.

Ahead of this weekend's Italian Grand Prix, Mercedes departed as second in the constructors' rankings with 65 points, 39 points adrift of Ferrari at the top.

"For us, the race went better than we expected, especially after a tough Friday," said Wolff, as reported by Antara.

"George and Lewis were both strong over the weekend and brought home a lot of points for the team. We learned a lot and really made the most of the opportunities we had, and that's what we want to keep doing."

Having won the constructors' championship eight times in a row, Mercedes this year is still struggling to find speed and has been plagued by porpoising in a season with new regulations. Meanwhile, Ferrari rose from adversity in the previous two seasons through Charles Leclerc's two wins in Bahrain and Australia.

"We know we are not as fast as Ferrari and Red Bull at this time. But we are working hard to cut their advantage," said Wolff.

"Obviously we have to be realistic, it will take time for us to achieve what we want, but we learn as much as we can from each race and find ways to push us forward.

"Now we look forward to Imola and the first sprint race of the season. This is a historic and old circuit with a challenging layout that the riders really enjoy."

According to Wolff, qualifying will be very important in this narrow track. He couldn't wait to see how their land jets conquered Imola.
